National Crime Victimization Survey
In 2005 there were 2,145,340 reported cases of violent crimes against women. These crimes included rape/ sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault. Roughly 64 percent of violent crimes against women were committed by non-strangers and 34 percent were committed by strangers.
In two percent of those incidents the relationship was unknown.

Males are far more vulnerable to violence by strangers than females - 54 percent compared to 34 percent.
